Cambridge exams

At Language Services Direct we offer preparation courses for the full range of Cambridge ESOL examinations:

General English (PET, FCE, CAE, Proficiency)

These certificates are provided by Cambridge ESOL and consist of exams at 4 levels:

  • PET (Intermediate)
  • FCE (Upper Intermediate)
  • CAE (Advanced)
  • Proficiency (Mastery)

The exams consist of 4 parts; Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening and the tasks focus on general English and everyday situations

Business English (BEC Preliminary, Vantage, Higher, BULATS)

These certificates are provided by Cambridge ESOL and consist of exams at 3 levels:

  • BEC Preliminary (Intermediate)
  • BEC Vantage (Upper Intermediate)
  • BEC Higher (Advanced)

The exams consist of 4 parts; Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening with the tasks all based on business scenarios and situations.

Business Language Testing Service (BULATS)

This Cambridge ESOL exam consists of a single exam for all levels. It is similar in format to the Business English Certificate but can be taken either as a computer based test or as a standard paper and pencil test. The computer based test is ‘adaptive' which means that the questions asked vary according to the level of the candidate.

International Certificate in Financial English (ICFE)

This Cambridge ESOL exam is designed for finance professionals to show that they have English required to work in an international finance context or to follow a course of accountancy or finance study.

The exam consists of four separate papers testing reading, writing, listening and speaking. The tasks are based on tasks and topics that finance professionals would expect to encounter in their daily lives, such as:

  • financial reporting
  • insurance
  • investment banking
  • ethics and professionalism
  • accounting software
  • assets and company valuations
  • acquisitions and mergers
